In recent years, China’s stage lighting industry has witnessed rapid growth, with a constant stream of talented professionals. Groups of young lighting designers are stepping onto the industry stage with surging creativity.

Light lies ahead, and new talent carries the torch! To help more outstanding creators gain recognition, the 5th “GETshow Cup” Young Stage Lighting Designer Competition, initiated by Guangdong Entertainment Technology Chamber of Commerce and co-hosted by China Stage Art Society, is now open for entries from talented young lighting designers nationwide.

More than a professional contest, it serves as a stepping stone to the spotlight of the industry. Boasting a reputable panel of authoritative judges and an open, fair and impartial competition system, the event builds a platform for young industry talents to communicate and showcase their work, empowering their growth with industrial resources.

01、Revamped Competition Format, A Contest of Strength

Adhering to the principles of openness, fairness and impartiality, the 5th Competition assembles a professional jury comprising top domestic art academies, authoritative industry associations, leading specialists and renowned directors, to tap into the innovative potential of young talents.

The competition features two separate tracks: the Student Group and the Professional Group. It adopts a hybrid evaluation model with online grouped judging and an on-site final, enabling participation by a wider range of young stage lighting practitioners.

student group

Current students majoring in stage lighting design and related disciplines from colleges and above (including junior colleges).

professional group

Practitioners engaged in stage lighting design, aged 40 or under.

originality requirement

All entries must be original works by individuals, free from copyright disputes, plagiarism or unauthorized appropriation, and compliant with national laws and regulations. Participants are required to sign an originality statement.

Revamped Competition Format, Multi-round Selection

The competition features an upgraded two-stage format: Online Preliminary + On-site Final, which comprehensively assesses contestants’ creative concepts, scheme design and on-site practical capabilities.

Preliminary Requirements

Contestants choose their own themes for lighting programming preview;

Student Group: Submit lighting plots and simulation videos (within 3 minutes);

Professional Group: Submit lighting plots and videos of real on-site works (3–5 minutes);

Video format: MP4

Note: No text information shall be added in the work videos. Lighting programming preview software is not restricted.Entries from across the country will be collected and reviewed anonymously by the organising committee. The top 15 contestants from each group will qualify for the on-site final.

How to Enter

Young stage lighting designers are warmly invited to take part. Preliminary entries shall be submitted to the organising committee via email for jury assessment. After impartial evaluation by the professional panel, the top 15 works of the Student Group and Professional Group will advance to the on-site final.

This competition aims to build an authoritative platform and empower talent development with industrial resources.
