The 5th GETshow Cup Young Stage Lighting Designer Competition

With light as the brush and the stage as the canvas! Initiated by the Industry Association of South China Entertainment Equipment (SCEE) and co-hosted by the China Institute of Stage Design, the 5th GETshow Cup Young Stage Lighting Designer Competition is officially launched from today.

Empowering talent development through an industrial platform. Since the inaugural“ GETshow Cup ”Young Stage Lighting Designer Competition was successfully held in 2023, the event has gathered senior experts and industry leaders in China’s stage lighting design sector to provide professional guidance throughout. It ensures the competition is fair, impartial and transparent, and its credibility is widely recognised across the industry.

Whether you are a student majoring in this field or a young lighting designer working on the front line, this is an ideal stage for you to showcase your creativity, demonstrate your talent and connect with industry resources.

01、Authoritative platform and industrial resources

This competition aims to build an authoritative platform and empower talent development with industrial resources. To fully demonstrate the demeanour of young stage lighting designers in the new era, the competition features a completely upgraded competition format. It creates an integrated platform for professional competition, exchange and demonstration that combines industry, academia, research and application. The event seeks to discover emerging lighting design talents and boost innovation in stage lighting art as well as high-quality development of the industry.

02、past glories, further progress today

currently, the "getshow cup" young stage lighting designer competition has been successfully held for five sessions. over these five years, the industry has witnessed countless shining moments of young lighting designers. on the stage of the "getshow cup", they have demonstrated the dazzling radiance of young stage lighting designers in the new era.

03、new competition rules, contest of strength

The 5th competition adheres to the evaluation principles of "fairness, impartiality and openness". it assembles a professional jury composed of top domestic professional academies, authoritative industry associations, senior industry experts and renowned directors to tap the innovative potential of young talents.

the competition sets two independent tracks: the student group and the professional group. it adopts online group evaluation and offline live final matches to cover more young practitioners in stage lighting design.

student group

currently enrolled students majoring in stage lighting design and related majors from colleges and above (including junior colleges)

professional group

engaged in stage lighting design aged no more than 40 years old

originality requirements

all entries must be original works of individuals, free from copyright disputes, plagiarism or piracy, and comply with national laws and regulations. contestants are required to sign an originality statement.

new competition format, rounds of competition

the competition features an upgraded competition format, adopting a two-stage model of "online preliminary contest + offline final". it comprehensively assesses contestants' creative conception, scheme design and on-site practical operation capabilities!

preliminary contest requirements

1、contestants select themes freely for lighting programming preview;

2、student group: submit lighting plots and simulation videos (within 3 minutes);

3、professional group: submit lighting plots and videos of real on-site works (3-5 minutes);

4、video output format: mp4

note: no text information shall be added in the work videos. there is no restriction on lighting programming preview software.

works from contestants nationwide will be collected for the preliminary contest. the organizing committee will conduct anonymous evaluation uniformly. the top 15 contestants of each group will be selected to advance to the offline final.

How to participate

young stage lighting designers are welcome to take an active part. preliminary entries shall be submitted to the organizing committee by email for jury review. after fair evaluation by the professional jury, the top 15 entries of the student group and professional group will advance to the offline final.
