Repost from SYNCO: Ditch the main unit — this is what wireless communication should truly be.

Have you ever thought about one question:What should the most ideal wireless communication product really be like? The answer is actually simple — devices should communicate directly with each other, without relying on a central main unit.Power on to connect instantly, put on and start talking. Free from single-point limitations and complicated settings. This is exactly what a collaboration tool ought to be.Yet unfortunately, before the arrival of MasterFree technology, you could hardly find a communication system like this on the market.

For a long time, on-set, live streaming and outdoor production teams have relied on a traditional intercom network centered around a main host unit.

While it has effectively solved the issues of half-duplex communication and severe signal interference inherent to walkie-talkies, bringing great convenience to on-location coordination, its architectural flaws have hidden potential risks right from the very beginning.

All communications rely on scheduling and forwarding by a central host, with stability entirely tied to the host’s status. Powering on requires waiting for network grouping, and operation demands constant monitoring of the host. As the core of the system, the host also constitutes a critical single point of failure. Once the host malfunctions or a user moves out of range, communication cuts off instantly, severely undermining on-site coordination and workflow efficiency. Addressing this long-standing industry pain point, Soundink has fundamentally restructured the intercom network with a focus on decentralization, self-organizing networking, and high reliability. It independently developed and continuously iterates on the MasterFree host-free transmission protocol:

  • MasterFree 1.0: Supports manual host switching, achieving initial independence from host reliance.

  • MasterFree 2.0: Enables automatic node allocation to realize fully automatic networking.

  • MasterFree 3.0: Adopts a true host-free architecture, allowing devices to network freely and completely eliminate central nodes.

It no longer requires dedicated personnel to monitor the host, nor cumbersome pre-configuration, and there is no need to worry about system-wide communication paralysis caused by a single point of failure.

Facts have proven that:

The host-free intercom network centered on device autonomy, free from the constraints of centralization, is a more efficient, stable, and better-suited communication solution for modern on-site collaboration.

This is not a simple functional upgrade, but an architectural revolution—— this is the intercom product that represents the future and boasts long-term development potential.

A Continuous Reconstruction Centered on the Host

From the perspective of Soundink intercom system development,

its core has always centered on one key question: Should communication between devices be controlled by a single device, or managed by the system itself? The three generations of MasterFree evolution are essentially an in-depth breakdown of this very question.

In December 2024, MasterFree 2.0 was launched. It introduced the automatic host election design. When the host disconnects or fails, the system automatically elects a new host. No repeated manual configuration is required.Meanwhile, communication latency dropped to 60ms. Architecturally speaking, version 2.0 is still an optimization of centralized design. The real milestone is MasterFree 3.0 — Mesh Talk™ architecture.

In 2025, based on the self-developed Mesh Talk™ engine, Soundink launched MasterFree 3.0 and unveiled the world’s first truly host-free intercom system, the Soundink Master Series. It completely eliminated the concept of a host at the system architecture level. At this stage, Soundink did not simply add functions along the original path. Instead, it chose to fully restructure the entire system. Powered by MasterFree 3.0, the system is redefined as a decentralized intercom network. There is no fixed or optional host anymore. Every device acts as an equal communication node. Devices can connect directly with one another and dynamically select the optimal transmission path based on real-world conditions. This structural change is fundamental. First, the risk of communication interruption caused by single-point failure is completely eliminated. The departure, failure or access of any node will not affect the operation of the entire system. Second, the network features self-organizing and self-healing capabilities. It can maintain a stable structure continuously in dynamic working environments. Since audio data no longer needs forwarding via a host, the communication link is greatly shortened with further reduced latency. It remains smooth and stable even when expanded to a larger scale. More importantly, with this decentralized structure, the system operates under the same logic whether for quick deployment of small teams or large-scale collaborative networks expanded with base stations. No complicated extra configuration procedures are required.

A new era has arrived.

From relying on a central host,to weakening host dependence, and ultimately achieving complete host-free operation, the three-generation evolution of MasterFree technologyessentially transfers operational complexityfrom users to the system itself.

This also means intercom systemsare evolving from mere communication toolsinto essential collaborative infrastructure for on-site production.
